This document is merely an attempt to provide answers to some common questions posted to us, by the candidates. However, this list is neither exhaustive nor does it purport to be a source of complete information on the subject. Hence candidates are advised, in their own interest to refer to the Information Bulletin on the NTA website https://exams.nta.ac.in/AISSEE/ and ensure that they meet eligibility criteria. What are these approved NSSs?
Ministry of Defence (MoD), Govt. of India has approved setting up of Approved New Sainik Schools, in partnership with NGOs/private schools/State Governments. The scheme leverages Public/private partnership in education sector, helps tap into existing infrastructure available with reputed private and Govt. Schools and open-up new capacities to meet the growing aspirations of children desirous of receiving education in a Sainik School environment.

What are the objectives of setting up Approved New Sainik Schools?
The main objective behind the vision of setting up of 100 Approved New Sainik Schools is to create an academically strong, culturally aware, intellectually adept, confident, highly skilled, multi-dimensional, patriotic self -reliant, youth community with leadership qualities focused on providing utmost priority to the nation.

How many approved NSSs are there?
As of now, Govt. has approved 19 Approved New Sainik Schools. Approval of additional New Sainik Schools is currently under progress and will be included during e-counselling.

Are approved NSSs, “Sainik Schools”?
They are distinct from the existing 33 Sainik Schools, and form a separate vertical under SSS.

Are the approved NSSs governed by the SSS?
Approved NSSs function under the aegis of Sainik Schools Society and will follow the Rules and Regulations for Approved New Sainik Schools in partnership mode prescribed by the Society

Is the education offered at approved NSS the same as that offered at SSs?
In addition to their regular affiliated Board curriculum, approved NSSs will also impart education of Academic PLUS curriculum to the students of Sainik School pattern.

Will these Schools operate both their regular stream and Sainik School stream simultaneously?
Yes, however to join the Sainik school pattern of education in these schools, a candidate must qualify in AISSEE.

Are the approved NSSs residential?
Not necessarily. Candidates are advised to check the website of the approved New Sainik School concerned.

What syllabus (CBSE/State Board etc) do the approved NSSs schools follow?

No, Candidates are advised to check the website of the approved New Sainik School.

In which classes of approved NSSs, admission is open for the academic year 2024-25, in the Sainik School stream?
Class VI only

What is the admission process for approved NSSs?
Candidates are required to appear and qualify in the AISSEE 2024. Those who qualify have to apply for counselling after declaration of results. Admission is based on the rank secured in AISSEE 2024.
There are two channels of admission to approved NSS:
40% route:
Min. 40% of the seats in approved NSSs will be filled on the basis of the rank secured in the All-India Merit List. Domicile/Category are not considered for this Merit List. Candidates can opt for any approved NSS in India, at the time of counselling.
60% route:
Upto 60% of the seats in approved NSSs will be filled by those who are currently studying in the approved NSS. They will be filled on the basis of rank secured in School wise Merit List. Domicile/Category are not considered for this Merit List. Candidates are deemed to have opted for the approved NSS where they are currently studying (as indicated in their application form) for admission under this route.

Are the domicile/category requirements applicable to approved NSS?

Is it compulsory to write the AISSEE 2024 for admission to approved NSSs in the Saink School stream?
Yes

Is the AISSEE 2024 common to those who are seeking admission to SS as well as those who are seeking admission to approved NSS in the Sainik School stream?

As an aspirant for admission to approved NSS, can I choose any of the 13 languages listed in the Information Bulletin, as medium of Question Paper in AISSEE 2024?

Do all approved NSSs admit girls and boys in the Sainik school stream for the academic year 2024-25?
Not necessarily, the New SSs can be Boys/Girls/Co-Ed schools. Candidates are advised to check the website of the New Sainik School concerned and ensure that they are eligible, before they apply

How do I apply for the Sainik School Stream of Class VI of approved NSSs?
You are required to apply online only at https://exams.nta.ac.in/AISSEE/ and also pay the exam fee online using payment gateway.

I am a candidate who is currently studying in a approved NSS. Can I apply for both Sainik schools and approved New Sainik Schools?
You have the option to apply for SS, or approved NSS or both. You have the following options:
You can apply to
1. Sainik Schools(SS) only
2. SS + Approved NSS 40% route (in that order of priority)
3. SS+ Approved NSS-40% route+ Approved NSS-60% route (in that order of priority)
4. SS+ Approved NSS-60% route (in that order of priority)
5. Approved NSS-40% route +Approved NSS-60% route (in that order of priority)
6. Approved NSS-60% route only
7. Approved NSS-40% route only
You are required to indicate the combination opted by you in your application form.

I am a candidate who is not currently studying in a Sainik school or approved NSS. Can I apply for both Sainik schools and approved New Sainik Schools?
You have the option to apply for SS, or approved NSS or both. You have the following options:
You can apply to
a) Sainik Schools only
b) Sainik Schools + Approved NSSs 40% route (in that order of priority)
c) Approved NSS 40% route only
You are required to indicate the combination opted by you in your application form.

Do I have to choose the Sainik School, right upfront while applying or can I choose at the time of counselling?
In case the combination opted by you includes Sainik Schools, you will be required to select the SS at the time of applying.

Do I have to choose the approved NSS right upfront while applying or can I choose at the time of counselling?
If you have opted for approved NSS-40% route, you can opt for any approved New Sainik School in India, at the time of e-counselling. You will not be required to opt for the NSS at the time of applying for AISSEE 2024.
A candidate who is opting for admission under approved NSS-60% route would be deemed to have opted for the New Sainik School where he is currently studying.

Is the exam fee same whether I apply for Sainik School or approved NSS or both?
Yes.

What are the eligibility requirements for applying to an approved NSS?
Admission in approved NSS for academic year 2024-25 in the Sainik School stream is open only at Class VI level.
There are two channels of admission:
40% route:
1. Candidate must be between 10-12 years of age as on 31.03.2024.
2. Candidate must have been between 01.04.2012 and 31.03.2014(both days inclusive)
60% route:
1. Candidate must be between 10-12 years of age as on 31.03.2024.
2. Candidate must have been between 01.04.2012 and 31.03.2014(both days inclusive)
3. Must be currently studying in the approved NSS where he is seeking admission.
4. Must have passed/appearing in Class V, as on 31.03.2024

Are girls eligible to apply for admission to Class VI in approved NSS?
Yes. Please check at Appendix-B of Information Bulletin-2024 on https://exams.nta.ac.in/AISSEE/ for New Sainik Schools which are for Boys only.

What documents do I need to upload while applying?
1. Photograph 2. Signature
3. Thumb impression 4. Domicile certificate
5. Date of birth certificate
6. Category certificate, if applicable
7. Service Certificate in case of wards of Defence personnel/ex-servicemen, if applicable.
8. Certificate from the Approved NSS where the candidate is currently studying certifying that the applicant is studying there, if applicable.

What are the passing requirements in the exam?
For SS
Min. 25% marks in each section and min. 40% in the aggregate. This does not apply to SC/.ST categories.
For Approved NSS-40% and 60% -both routes
Min. 25% marks in each section and min. 40% in the aggregate. This is applicable to all candidates including SC/ST candidates.

How is the Merit list prepared for admission to SS?
Merit List is prepared School wise, class wise, category wise, for Home state and Other states (separately for boys and girls), based on the marks secured in AISSEE 2024.

How is the Merit List prepared for admission to approved NSS-40%?
All India Merit List- based on marks secured in AISSEE-2024. No category or domicile is taken into consideration in the preparation of this Merit List.

How is the Merit List prepared for admission to approved NSS-60%?
School wise Merit List- based on marks secured in AISSEE-2024. No category or domicile is taken into consideration in the preparation of this Merit List.

When will counselling for approved NSS start?
Simultaneously with the admission to SS.

Do I have to apply for counselling even if I want to join SS?
Yes. All candidates seeking admission to SS or approved NSS (40% route or 60% route) are required to apply for counselling after declaration of AISSEE-2024 results.

I am an applicant under approved NSS-40% route. Do I get to choose the approved NSS at the time of counselling?
Yes. In case you want to apply for approved NSS -40% route, you will be given the option to select any approved NSS in India at the time of counselling.

I am an applicant under approved NSS-60% route. Do I get to choose the approved NSS at the time of counselling?
No. You will be deemed to have applied for admission to the approved NSS where you are currently studying, as indicated in your application form and will be considered based on the position in the School wise Merit List of AISSEE 2024.

If I get admission to some approved NSS, can I get a transfer to a SS later?
No. Admission of a student in one of Approved New Sainik Schools does not confer any right whatsoever to such student to claim admission/transfer in any of the existing 33 Sainik Schools
